Tip #3226 - Spice Up Hotmail
Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
Q:
Is there any way that I can "spice up" my Hotmail e-mails a
little? They're always so boring and I'd like to add a little jazz to
them. Please help!
A:
This is the perfect question for any Hotmail user. Now, as we established
above, we all like to send and receive e-mails, but sometimes they turn
out so dull looking, don't they? Sometimes mine are so boring, I'm embarrassed
to send them off to my friends. I'm sure most of your friends feel the
same way too. Well, worry no more, because today I've got something for
you that's going to change that forever!
Now, this tip is
only for Hotmail users, but it's good, because I know a lot of you use
Hotmail. When we're done, your Hotmail e-mails will be sitting in a whole
new light. It's time to fancy them up!
How would you like
to change the boring old regular text that you always type your e-mails
in to something a little more fun and exciting? It's really easy to do,
so let's get started! First, log in to your Hotmail account and click
on New Message, just like you would if you were composing
a new e-mail. Next, you need to make sure you have the rich-text editor
turned on. If you see a toolbar under the Subject line, yours is already
on. If not, simply go to Tools and click Rich-Text
Editor ON. That will bring up the before mentioned toolbar for
you.
From there, click
on Font Style. You will now see all of the font choices
you can choose from to compose your message in. There's only a few, but
they surely will spice up your e-mails a little. You can choose from Arial,
Verdana, Lucida Handwriting, Garamond and more. Just click the one you
like and then start typing your e-mail. The new font style will come through
and I'm guessing you'll be very impressed with the change.
Well, lucky for all
of us, that's not all the rich-text editor can do! With it, you can change
the size of your font and even change the color too. To change the size,
click on the Font Size drop down menu. From there, you'll
have seven different sizes to choose from. If your recipients like to
read the big fonts, choose size six or seven. You can even change the
sizes for different parts of your e-mail. If one part needs to be emphasized
more, choose a bigger font for that part, but go back to the normal size
for the rest of it. It's all up to you.
Now, to change the
color of your font, click on the color menu (it's an "A" with
a red line underneath it). Once there, you'll have the whole color spectrum
to choose from. Choose from greens, yellows, blues, etc. Just click the
color you want and continue typing. The whole e-mail will show up in color.
Again, if you want to change the colors during certain parts of your e-mail,
go and choose another color. It's easy to go back and forth between them
to make your e-mail just the way you want it. On top of all that, you
can even choose a color to put in the background of your e-mail. Just
click on the paint bucket icon and choose the color you want. It will
then cover up the entire background of your e-mail for a very cool look.
I'm not done yet!
There are several other things you can do with this toolbar. For example,
you can add bullet points, decrease or increase the indent space, add
a divider line and insert links. You can make certain words or phrases
bold, italicized or even underline them. You also have the choice of putting
your text to the left of the margin, to the right or in the center. Cool,
huh?!
Now, we've come to
my favorite part. One more thing that you can do with the rich-text editor
is add emoticons
to your e-mails. Just click on the yellow smiley face icon and insert
them at your pleasure. There's several to choose from, including a cup
of coffee, a present, a heart, a rose, a telephone and a camera, among
others. Then, along with all those, you can choose from the regular smiley
faces. Add a happy face, a sad face, a silly face or a face with sunglasses.
Depending on how you're feeling, there's an emoticon for it all!
Here's an example
of an e-mail I created:

So, go ahead and take
some time to look through all the options you have with this Hotmail toolbar
and create an e-mail like you've only thought was possible in your dreams.
But, most importantly, have fun!
