Tip #3285 - Name It Without Typing
Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
Name
It Without Typing
Trying to name existing
ranges of data in MS Excel?
Does the data already
have a name at the top of the column (or left of the row) that you'd like
to have Excel transfer as the range name?
Nobody would want
to retype all those names into the name box, so let's just take a quick
second to see how to get Excel to do the naming for us.
First, highlight
the range you want to name, including the cell with the name
in it.
Next, we need the
Insert menu, Name submenu, Create
choice.
In the Create Names
window, select the option that tells Excel where the
data range name is located and click OK.

That's it! When you
return to the worksheet, you'll find the newly created name range in the
drop down list of the Name box.

No retyping for you!
