Q:
Lately, I've been having trouble getting my iPod to turn on. Then when
it does come on, it just shows an exclamation point ( ! ) on the screen
for a few seconds and then shuts off again. What's going on? Can you please
help me get my iPod back?!
A:
Wow, that sounds very frustrating. There are several different things
that can cause this to happen, so I'm willing to guess that you're not
the only one asking this question. Lucky for all of us, you went ahead
and asked! Now we can get down to business and get this problem solved.
So, let's go!
Like I said above,
this iPod problem can be caused by a number of different things. I'm going
to go over some of those with you right now, but make sure you do them
in the order that I explain them. If you go on ahead, you might miss an
easier way to get your iPod fixed. First off, one of the biggest causes
of this iPod problem is the Hold switch. When you're
trying to turn your iPod on, make sure the Hold switch is turned to the
Off position. You will find the switch on the top of
your iPod. If you see an orange area, that means the Hold is on. All you
have to do is push it the other way and it will go off. You should then
be able to turn your iPod on.
If that didn't fix
your problem, the next culprit may be your iPod's battery. If your battery
is not charged up enough to give the iPod power to work, you won't get
any service. Instead of turning on, you will only see a low battery icon
on your iPod's screen and it will have an exclamation point ( ! ) next
to it. This will only show up for three seconds or so, but that exclamation
point is there to tell you that something is wrong, so be sure to always
pay attention to it! In this case, all you need to do is charge your battery.
Go ahead and hook your iPod up to its power adapter and let it charge
up. Keep in mind that if your battery was completely dead, it will take
up to four hours to get it fully charged and working again.
The next thing you
can try is resetting your iPod. This really only should be used as a last
case scenario though. To reset the player, make sure the Hold switch is
in the Off position. Next, connect your iPod to its power
adapter and plug that into an electrical outlet. Then press and hold both
the Play and Menu buttons for at least
five seconds or until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Once the logo
comes up, your iPod will be reset and you should be able to use it again.
Now, what if you've
done everything and so far, your iPod seems to be working okay, but you're
just not getting any music to play? What can you do now? First, make sure
the Hold switch is off again. Then check to see if your earphones are
plugged in all the way. If they're loose, you won't be able to hear any
music. Another thing you can try is turning up the volume on your iPod.
Then lastly, check to see if your iPod is set on Pause.
If it is, just press Play and you'll be good to go. I
know all of those things may seem too easy, but sometimes, it's the easiest
things that can be the answer to all of our problems!

it. Some of the most common iPod problems solved within minutes. Give
