The
Internet and TiVo
So, you got finally
got TiVo and you want to learn a little bit more about it. Well, that's
no problem! In this article, I’m going to teach you how you can
set your TiVo up to record your favorite shows via the Internet. Yes,
you heard me right! This is a great way to record shows that you may have
forgotten about while you were on vacation or at work. Below, you will
find step by step instructions. Let's go!
Basic Requirements
- TiVo and its service.
- An Internet connection.
Step 1: Go
to TiVo's Web site.
Use any personal
computer with an Internet connection and visit the TiVo Web site. It can
be found at www.TiVo.com.
Step 2: Click
on “Online Scheduling.”
Once you make your
way to the TiVo Web site, you will want to find the link titled
Online Scheduling. It is located near the bottom on the left
hand side of the screen.

Step 3:
Click on “Browse TV Listings.”
Next, there will
be a small box somewhere on the screen that resembles the TiVo guide on
your TV. There will be a button that says Browse TV Listings.
Click on it to continue.

Step 4: Find
the Show You Want to Record.

Most of the time,
TiVo will bring up the current TV schedule for your area, based on location.
In the event that it brings up the wrong schedule, all you have to do
is the following:
1. Click the link at the top of the TV schedule that says Change
Zip Code.
2. Enter your zip
code in the box provided and click the purple Go button
3. A list of TV service
providers will come up next. Click on whatever TV service provider you
have. For example, Comcast, DISH, Adelphia, etc.
4. Next, click the
purple Go button at the bottom of the screen.
Assuming you don’t
need to set up the TV schedule, all you need to do is navigate your way
to the show you wish to record. The online schedule looks very similar
to the TiVo schedule, so it should be very easy to figure out.
Step 5:
Click on Your Show.
Once you find the show you want to record, click on it. A small menu will
drop down under your show. To the right of the drop down menu, you will
see the familiar options of Record This Episode and Season
Pass.
Step 6: Click
on "Record This Episode."
Assuming you don’t want to record the whole season, just hit the
Record This Episode button. If you do want to record
the whole season, just click the Get Season Pass button
instead.

Step 7: Sign
In.
Now, you will need
to sign in. This is the e-mail address and password you used to set up
your TiVo subscription plan. You may have done this online or when you
installed your TiVo. If you can’t remember it, you can always click
on the Forgot Password to recover it.

Step 8: Confirm
and Record.

The next screen then
lets you double check your settings.
On TiVo DVR – If you have more than one TiVo, you
can choose which one you want to record your program with.
Channel
– Double check to make sure the channel is correct.
What Priority?
– Do you want the TiVo to record this program no matter what? Or,
do you want to record this program only if it doesn’t interfere
with recordings you already have programmed?
What Quality?
– Select the quality you want to record in. Remember, the higher
quality choices use more space on your TiVo. If you aren’t sure
what quality to use, just choose the Use Default option.
Next, click the purple
Schedule It button and you're all set.

And there you have
it. It's as easy as pie to work with TiVo and the Internet together. Now,
go on and enjoy your shows!
