Tip #3689 - Tweak VI
Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
Q:
Do you know anything about Tweak VI?
A:
As a matter of fact, I do! I actually saw this being discussed on our
message board and as soon as I saw the name, I had to check it out. So,
without any further ado, what is Tweak VI? Well, it just so happens to
be the first software designed to "both tweak and optimize"
the new operating system of Windows Vista. So, if you've upgraded to Vista
in the past few months, you best check this out!
Now, I know many of
you have probably heard of Tweak UI before, because we here at WorldStart
have actually done several tips on that in the past. Well, Tweak UI was
basically meant for older operating systems (mostly Windows XP), so as
you can probably guess, Tweak VI is a big step up from that. How exciting
is that?!
With Tweak VI (powered
by Totalidea), you can work on tweaking your new system and optimize it
to be the best it can be for you. You can tweak hundreds of hidden Vista
features and customize it to fit all of your computer needs. This new
software comes along with 13 plug-ins, with others available upon download
(more on that below). It has so many different utilities all bundled into
one package, it'll prove to be amazing for any computer tweaker.
As I'm sure you can
already tell, Tweak VI has tons of features, but here's a brief list for
you to take a look at, according to the official Tweak VI Web site:
- Activate hundreds
of hidden Windows Vista settings
- Clean out your
registry
- Activate system
and software restrictions
- Display detailed
system information
- Create a 256 MB
RAM drive
- Protect your privacy
- Clean out your
hard drive
- Manage TrueType
fonts
- Improve your Internet
connection
- Optimize your CPU
- Optimize your RAM
- Manage system updates
- Transfer your tweaks
and settings to other Vista computers (and so much more!)
Wow, huh?! Now, I
bet you're thinking that all of this comes with a nice price, huh? Well,
you're wrong! The full version of Tweak VI is now available completely
free. Yep, I do not lie! Also, like I said before, it comes with 13 plug-ins
that you can use for free, but there are several others that you can download
if you subscribe and pay for another edition of the program (there's a
Premium and Ultimate version along with the Basic free edition). If you're
interested in paying for the other versions, you can check all of that
out here.
I'm definitely not telling you to do that, because the free edition is
just as good, but if you want more features, check those out!
There is also a CD
ROM copy that you can purchase for the Basic edition, but to be honest,
there's not really any need for that. You can just download the Basic
version and everything will be exactly the same. You can do that right
here.
It's the first link you see, called "v1.0 build 1052."
Other than that, you
should be all set. The system requirements include Windows Vista (RC1
or better), the regular hardware requirements for Windows Vista, up to
35 MB free space on your hard drive and a connection to the Internet (for
the Premium and Ultimate versions only). You can also check out the main
Tweak VI Web site here
to learn even more about it, etc. There's a couple FAQ pages, a complete
plug-in list, screenshots and so on. All of those can be found on the
left side column of links.
Okay, I think that
covers the basics pretty well. I hope you enjoy this brand new edition
to the Windows Vista family. Now, go on and have some good ol' fashion
tweaking fun!
