Tooltips
Did you know that
everyday, at some point in time while you're working on your computer,
you've come across a tooltip? It's such a common thing with computers
these days and most of us probably don't even realize it when we see one.
Do you have any idea what I'm talking about yet? Well, whether you do
or you don't, come along with me as I explain what exactly a tooltip is.
I bet by the time you're done reading this, you'll be saying, "Oh,
that's what that is!"
When you point your
mouse over any item on your computer, you usually see a little box pop
up with some information in it. Am I right? Well, that's a tooltip. Yep,
a tooltip is a common graphic that is used in conjunction with your mouse
pointer to give you the information you need to know about certain items
on your computer. Tooltips are always there to keep you informed and they
can be found just about anywhere. Let's go over some examples.
When you mouse over
the clock in your system tray, a box with the date will pop up. That's
a tooltip. If you have program icons in your quick launch area, a box
will come up letting you know which program that icon belongs to. That's
a tooltip too. When you go to your Start menu and hover your mouse over
a program, a box with a description of what that program does shows up.
Yes, you guessed it, that's a tooltip. And those are just a few examples
of tooltips. Pretty cool, huh?! Now, go on and see how many you can find!
