PassPack
Do you ever have trouble
keeping track of all your passwords? I know I sure do! Every Web site
I visit seems to have different criteria for their passwords and I really
don't like all my passwords to be the same. That way, if one of my passwords
got out somehow, other people wouldn't have access to all of my accounts.
I've even had this
problem with usernames too! On certain Web sites, my default username
is taken by someone else, but on other sites, it isn't. So, I sometimes
have to make up a new one and it's hard to keep track of them. I also
wanted separate usernames for work and personal use. As you can see, this
is one big mess!
I've tried suggestions,
like using a program that enters passwords in for you. However, I became
wary of that, because if an outsider used my computer, they might gain
access to my accounts. I also heard of creating a document with all of
my passwords in it. But again, if someone got ahold of that file, all
of my accounts would be in jeopardy. All I needed was a secure list of
my usernames and passwords that could be accessed anywhere. And I found
exactly that with PassPack.
PassPack
is an online password manager. Are you interested? I thought you might
be. Read on!
To begin:
1.) Visit PassPack.com and click on the Sign Up button.

2.) Choose a username, a password, agree to their terms of service and
then click Done. For security purposes, PassPack doesn’t
ask for your e-mail address.

3.) The information you just typed in will be confirmed, along with a
client code. Since you didn’t enter your e-mail address, PassPack
cannot send you your information in the case that you forget. Your client
code is the only way you can identify yourself to PassPack. So, make sure
you absolutely, positively write that code down and keep it in a safe
place.
4.) Below, you are
asked to create a packing key. It is another form of security, which you’ll
need to view and add passwords to your account. Go ahead and create one
and then click Set Key. Be sure to write down your packing
key as well.

5.) You will now see list of passwords, which should be empty. Click the
link of Add a New Entry.

6.) A box will appear.
Enter in the information you would like to give. PassPack provides the
optional field of notes and it also allows you to link straight to the
log in area of a Web site. When you are done with the entry, click
OK and the new entry will be added.

Voila! You now have a simple and secure list of usernames and passwords.
PassPack also suggests that you keep track of other private information
by entering it into the Notes area.

When you are done entering all of your information, click the Save
button, followed by the Pack it Up! button.

To view a password
entry, just log in, click on the entry you want to see and the listing
will be displayed.
Another suggestion
I have heard of and sometimes use is that if you use tabbed browsing,
such as with Firefox or Internet Explorer 7, set PassPack.com as one of
your homepage tabs. That way, you just need to log in once and you can
easily flip back and forth between the Web site and your list of passwords.

Be safe!
