Save
Those Pictures
With today's digital
photography tip, I will be giving you a few helpful hints on how to save
your memory card from losing the pictures you take. Keep reading for some
more details!
Now, while these tips
are elementary, not many photographers adhere to them. I'm hoping you
will though. Here are a few tips that will help you protect all those
precious photos you’ve taken. Remember, the moments you capture
on your camera's memory card cannot be recreated. They're either there
or they're not. To avoid a bad situation, abide by these simple rules
and you will be on your way to photo protection via your camera's memory
card/chip/stick!
Helpful Hints
1.) Always make sure
your batteries are charged completely before downloading photos to your
computer. If the battery dies during the transfer, the card can be damaged
and the photos may be lost. It's a good idea to purchase extra batteries
in case you need them as well. The best way to download your photos is
with a card reader. You can purchase one that takes either just one type
of card or multiple types. They're perfect for putting pictures onto a
computer.
2.) Always reformat
your card each time after downloading and saving all the pictures on your
computer. Don't use the computer to delete the photos or to format the
card.
3.) Wait a few moments
until the camera is through writing to the memory card before turning
off the camera.
4.) Do not remove
the card from the camera while the camera is turned on.
5.) Do not touch the
metal contacts on your memory card. Avoid static electricity charges and
be extra careful when handling cards in low humidity areas.
6.) Don't remove the
card from a card reader until you are sure it has finished downloading
the photos.
7.) If you have a
problem with the memory card, stop using it immediately. Do not take more
photos, reformat the card again (if you have done it once) or try to delete
the photos. Use an image recovery program to try and recover the images
before you do anything else.
8.) Be careful when
using the Delete All or Format options on your camera. Don't let people
who aren't familiar with the camera play with it until you have downloaded
your photos, as they might accidentally delete them.
If you follow these
guidelines, you should never have to worry about losing all those pictures
that I know mean so much to you!
