Q:
You're always talking about the new Windows Vista, but can you tell us
anything about Apple's new operating system for Macs? I believe it's called
the Leopard and I would love to learn some more about it!
A:
Excellent question! You're right, we here at WorldStart are always talking
about the new operating system of Windows Vista and I guess, with getting
all caught up in that, we've forgotten about the Mac side of things. We
only use PCs here in the office, so that's probably why none of us here
are all too familiar with what Apple has going on. I do apologize, but
hopefully you'll forgive me by the time you're done reading this article!
So, yes, it's true.
In the very near future, all you Mac users out there will have the opportunity
to move on up in the operating system world. Apple has finally introduced
the Mac OS X Leopard and let me tell you, it's bringing great things along
with it. So, if you thought Apple hit the bar with their Mac OS X Tiger,
you're in for a real treat with Leopard. Let's check out some of the new
features, shall we?!

First of all, one
of the most exciting new features of Leopard is called Time Machine.
This feature takes you beyond the backup process, so you no longer have
to worry about taking up all your time getting it done. Time Machine is
an automated system that backs up everything on your system on a very
regular basis. This includes all your photos, music, movies, documents,
etc. With Time Machine, you can also go back in time to look for any files
you may have deleted or even lost. How cool is that?!
Also, along with Leopard
comes Mail 3. With this new e-mail program, you can create
wonders. You can make invitations, letters and so much more by using Mail
3's new stationery designs or by adding in your own photos and graphics.
Mail 3 also comes with some extended security features, including anti-phishing
protection. This new Leopard e-mail program comes with all the stops and
it's the safest to use as well. It doesn't get any better than that!
Another new feature
of Leopard is called iChat. With iChat, you can chat
with all of your friends and family from anywhere. It also comes with
a whole slew of video backdrops you can choose from to make your chat
sessions a little more exciting. Leopard also comes with new ways to manage
and access the data on your Mac. One way is with a new feature called
Spaces. With that, you can organize all the applications
you use into different groups. That helps you to move between them much
easier as well. It's like a complete overview of everything you do on
your Mac, all at once!
With Dashboard,
you can add new widgets to your system too. They help speed up the time
you spend on the Web and you can even design your own widgets if you'd
like. That is done through a program called Dashcode, but everything is
included right along with Leopard. And last, but certainly not least is
Spotlight. With the Spotlight feature, you're able to
search among your network (if you're part of one). That way, you can find
what you need on more than one Mac or even search deeper on your own.
It's all up to you!
Now, those are just
a few of the new features you'll find with the Leopard operating system,
but I'd say that's a pretty good start. So, when can you get your own
copy of Leopard? Well, the release date has been in debate for some time
now, but as of right now, it will be available in October 2007. That's
only a few months away! So, keep your eyes open for it and in the meantime,
learn all you can about it. You'll then be more than ready when it does
come your way. Oh yeah!
