October
Security Update
Did you know that
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month?
Well, now you do and today, we're going to learn all about it! All
around the nation, schools, businesses and individuals are spreading
the word on how to stay safe online.
Being that it
is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, I figured it would be
a good time to review a few things all computers should have to be
safe when using the Internet.
Antivirus
Software - There are hundreds of different types of antivirus
software available to protect your computer. While all antivirus companies
will state that their software is the best, the most important thing
is that you have something. As long as you have an antivirus program
installed on your computer and it is up to date, your computer will
be able to delete any nasty viruses that may come your way.
Firewall
Software - Along with up to date antivirus software, it is
also important to have a good firewall. Antivirus software will remove
viruses that attack your computer, but a firewall will stop them from
getting there in the first place. Just like with antivirus software,
there are many different firewalls you can choose from. Windows XP
and Windows Vista both have a built in firewall. If nothing else,
use the Windows firewall. You can turn this on by going to the Control
Panel and finding the Security area.
Anti-spyware
Software – Spyware and adware are not viruses, but
they are equally as dangerous. These types of bugs can collect information
about what you do on your computer to be used by many different entities.
In order to protect yourself from these types of attacks, you will
need some type of spyware removal software. As with all the other
types we've discussed today, there are many different types of anti-spyware
software available today as well.
If you find that
you are lacking one or more of these products, you should protect
yourself immediately. Note: We here at WorldStart
sell many different types of software to protect your computer, so
if you're interested, you can check out our Utilities section right
here.

Month, please visit this Web
