BgInfo
Have you ever
had to look up your system information (such as your processor speed,
memory, hard drive space, etc.?) If you know anything about that,
it always seems to take so much time! Well, today I have a free download
that will put all of that vital information right on your desktop
for you. And you know what that means. Yep, you don't have to go digging
around for it anymore!
The program is
called BgInfo and it is probably my favorite time
saving utility. After you're finished with it, you will have all of
your computer information built right into your desktop background.
It will look something like this:

To get BgInfo,
just visit this Web
site. Once you get there, you will see a page that looks like
this:

Scroll down to
the bottom of that page and you will see the Download
link:

Click that and
BgInfo will download right to your desktop:

After downloading
the .zip file to your desktop, open it up and Copy
the "bginfo.exe" file:

Next, double click
your My Computer icon and open your C:
drive:

Then you just
need to Paste the file onto your C: drive:

Now, the program
is completely installed. You can double click the “bginfo.exe”
file and it will put your computer information right on your desktop.
For some of you, this will be all you need to do, but if you want
that information to show up every time you start your computer, you'll
need to follow the next steps.
First, you will
need to make a shortcut to "bginfo.exe." To do that, right
click the "bginfo.exe" file and choose
Create Shortcut, like this:

That will create
a file called “Shortcut to bginfo.exe.”
Next, right click on that file and choose Properties:

In the Properties
window, find the field called “target.”
In that box, type exactly what you see, which will be something like:
"C:\Bginfo.exe /timer:0." (Note:
There is a space between “Bginfo.exe” and the “/.”

Next, click OK
and then right click on "Shortcut to Bginfo.exe.”
Then choose Cut.

After cutting
the shortcut, navigate to your startup folder. The easiest way to
get there is to go to Start, All Programs,
Startup. Once you're there, right click on Startup
and choose Open:

The Startup folder
will then open. The last step is to Paste the shortcut
you cut earlier into the Startup folder:

Now, close out
all the folders and restart your computer. Your system information
will then be listed on your computer screen.
If you want to
change the look, color or position of the information, you can do
so by going back to your C: drive and double clicking
on the "bginfo.exe" file. That will open
the Properties area. Note: Make
sure you click the button on the top right that says Time
Remaining or the program will close down in 15 seconds.
Again, you can
download BgInfo for yourself right here.
I hope you can get some good use out of it. Enjoy!
