Do You See Stripes?
Over the years,
I've received a few requests for quick and easy ways to format every
other row in MS Excel with a highlighted color.
Everyone's tired
of completing the formatting manually and I must say, I have to agree!
So, as you can
imagine, I was quite pleased to find a way to make those formatting
changes with just a few clicks in Excel 2007.
Do you use Excel 2007?
If so, this tip's
for you!
First, highlight
the section of the worksheet you need to format.
On the Home
ribbon, you're looking for the Format as Table button.
(I know you don't want a table, but we'll take care of that in a minute).

Select
the formatting of your choice.
Excel will then confirm
that the highlighted range of cells should be converted to a table.
Click OK.
You'll then be
returned to your worksheet, where you'll find that Excel has turned
your highlighted range into a table.

The header row
you see can be removed by unchecking "Header Row"
in the Table Style Options section of the Table
Tools Design ribbon.

Finally, you'll
return the cells to a normal worksheet.
First, make sure
you have a cell of the table selected.
Now, click the
Convert to Range button (also located on the Table
Tools Design ribbon).
Voila!
Highlighting every
other row, without all the manual work!
