The Vista Click

As you may recall, last week, we ran an article on how to turn off the clicking sound you sometimes hear when you're working in Internet Explorer. As you learned from the tip, that dreadful clicking noise can be heard any time you click on a link to a Web site, when you're logging in to a Web site, etc. After awhile, that simple little "click" can drive you mad! As a remedy, we told you how to turn that sound off when using Windows XP. And ever since, several of you have been asking how you can do the same in Windows Vista. Well, here you go!

Now, just so we're clear, the tip for XP can be used with either Internet Explorer 6 or 7, but with Vista, it's only for version 7. The process is very similar for both operating systems, but if you've been using Vista for awhile now, you know there are always a few differences. To turn the clicking sound off in Vista, you first need to make your way to the Control Panel. To do so, click on the Start button and choose Control Panel. From there, click on the Hardware and Sound link.

Next, click on the Sound link, followed by the Sounds tab. Under the Programs section, scroll down to the Windows Explorer area and then double click on the Start Navigation option. From there, you will see all of the different sound choices you have. To turn the sound off completely, scroll up and select (None). Click OK and you'll be free from that awful "click, click, click" from now on! I know some of you may not even notice the clicking noise, but after you continue to browse through Vista a little more, I guarantee you'll hear it sooner or later. And when that time comes, you'll be glad you know how to turn it off. Trust me on this one!
