Travel
Pod
It’s a rather
dreary day here in Toledo. It's all gray and my yard is blanketed
with snow, but with mud peeking through as well. I think it’s
time to do some computer chair traveling. So, today, I’m bringing
you Travel Pod! It's a free travel blog Web site that allows you to
not only discover other people’s journeys, but share your own
as well!
Signing up is
free and really easy to do. You just need a username, password, country
and e-mail address. You will then be automatically logged in. There
is no waiting for a confirmation e-mail to get started! Although,
you do get a friendly welcome e-mail (mine came instantly) that provides
you with a lot of helpful tips to get started. It's definitely worth
checking out. In the e-mail, there is a link to a multi-media tour
you can take by going here.
If you click the
Home tab, you will be taken back to the main page, which is a great
place to start your journey. There you’ll find Recent Trips,
Featured Trips, Search, Quick Links, Travel Discussions and News.
Recent Trips –
Here you will find the most recent additions to the site. You can
browse through them in four different ways by changing the tab you're
on. Your choices are: All, Blog, Photo and Video. All of them show
the most recent material, regardless of whether it was a blog, photo
or video.
Featured Trips
– This section is divided in two ways: by blog and by photo.
There are six featured blogs and six featured photos. Each blog is
about an interesting trip. For example, one was about backpacking
across Europe. The photos are absolutely beautiful as well!
Search –
You’ll find the search field on the right side of the page.
Just type in where you want to go. For example, Venice. Then just
click the Search button. The search engine will then go and find all
the blogs, photos and videos of Venice it can and display them for
you. Venice is at the very top of my list of places to see before
I die!
Quick Links –
Under this section, you will find a lot of nifty things to do and
see! The tour I mentioned earlier is housed here, as well as, a very
fun Travel IQ game. I also discovered the Destinations section here
(even though it's also located at the top of the page next to the
Home tab). From there, you can see a map of the world and choose places
to check out. You’ll also find a link to the newsletter section,
where you can view the archives for the previous newsletters. When
I visited, there were no recent newsletters for January 2008. It’s
a monthly newsletter though, so it should be coming soon!
Oh! Also while
I was here, there was a link on my profile page to vote for the best
picture for January. There was the loveliest picture of tulips
there! I just wanted to dive right in. That alone made my visit worthwhile.
It picked me right up out of the doldrums and made me smile!
There’s
a whole world waiting for you out there, so go on and explore it right
from your computer chair!
