Tip #4641 - Flock Update
Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
Q:
I heard there was a new update for Flock. Do you know anything about
that? If so, please share!
A:
Wow,
you guys don't miss a thing! You're absolutely right, there is a new
version of Flock on the loose and I'm telling you, it's one you do
not want to miss. If you recall, I told you about Flock for the first
time a couple weeks ago (you can read that article here)
and since I received so much positive feedback from all of you, I
decided I would continue to keep you updated on the changes it makes
and so on. So, here it goes!

Let's
kick it off with the good news! Yep, on February 19, 2008, Flock
1.1 was released and it is now available for download. The
Flock team is very excited about this new release and they want you
to test it out and let them know what you think. According to their
Web site, they have been working on this for quite some time and they
are very proud of the finished product. As with any new release, several
changes have been made and a few new features have been added. And
that's exactly what I'm going to tell you about right now!
The
first new feature I want to talk about is Webmail integration. Yes,
it's true. Yahoo! Mail and Gmail are now both supported by Flock.
What's that mean exactly, you ask? Well, now you have the ability
to share anything in Flock from your Yahoo! or Gmail e-mail account.
That includes photos, videos, RSS feeds and even material from your
favorite Web sites. Also, with this new feature, you can make use
of the Web Clipboard in Flock even more. For example, if you want
to add a picture from a Web site into an e-mail, you can just drag
the image to the Clipboard and then drop it into your e-mail from
there. It makes working with your e-mail so much easier!
Another new feature
has to do with the Picasa photo program. If you're an avid Picasa
user, I can already see you jumping with joy! With this new addition,
you can upload your photos directly to Picasa through Flock. So, basically,
instead of dealing with multiple programs at once, you now only have
to worry about one. You can even view photo streams with Flock's Media
Bar. The MyWorld application has also changed a tad bit. Yep, now
you can name and assemble your very own MyWorld. How cool is all of
that?!
Now, I have one
more new feature to tell you about and it is called the Friend Activity
Feed. Once you've added all your friends to Flock (from Facebook,
YouTube, Flickr, etc.), you can use the Friend Activity Feed to keep
tabs on them. Their latest actions will go right into your MyWorld
and you'll know right away what they're up to at any given time during
the day. It's an easy way to keep up to date with all of your Flock
friends!
As you can see,
Flock 1.1 is focused on giving you what you want and what you need
while you're using the Web. With Flock, you can use all of your favorite
services at once and with ease. There really is no better way! So,
whenever you're ready to download Flock 1.1, just click on this link
and click on the Download button that corresponds
with your operating system. Then just follow the instructions and
you'll be all set. Also, like I said before, Flock is always looking
for your feedback, so go ahead and give v1.1 a try and then send them
a little note to tell them what you liked or disliked. The feedback
form can be found right here.
Enjoy your new Flock!
