Windows
Vista Battery Saver
You may not be
aware, but it is widely believed that the Windows Vista Aero interface
drains the battery completely from your system. But, along with many
others, I dispute this claim! Several users have asked me if turning
off the Aero interface will help save a few precious minutes of battery
life. Well, let's go and find out!
It just so happens
that there is a utility called the Windows Vista Battery Saver
that will turn off the Aero interface and/or the Windows Sidebar when
your battery appears to be low. Now, that may not seem like much,
but it actually saves 30 percent of your battery's life. Wow!
The Windows Vista
Battery Saver is a downloadable utility and once it's installed on
your computer, it places a small icon in your system tray that will
bring up the following Settings dialogue box:

You can change
the settings as you please, but I recommend one in particular: "Deactivate
when battery level is less than..." Once your battery's
life is down to critical levels, it's helpful to turn off anything
that could cause extra processor cycles (the Aero interface and Windows
Sidebar, for example).
You can download
the Windows Vista Battery Saver right here.
Enjoy getting the most out of your battery!
