Fruit
and Veggie Guru
I am a pretty
picky eater to begin with, but when you add veggies to the mix, I
get even pickier! I think as a child, the only vegetables I ate were
corn, carrots and cucumbers. Now, I enjoy zucchini, summer squash,
corn, carrots, spinach, peas, green beans and many more. On the other
hand, I’ve always been a little more adventurous when it comes
to fruit. That's probably because I love citrus so much and a lot
of fruits tend to be sweet tasting. But, with all the servings of
fruits and veggies you're supposed to get in a day, it's sometimes
hard to figure out what to eat, isn't it?
Well, that’s
where this Web site comes in! Here you can not only learn all about
fruits and vegetables, but you can find recipes for them as well.
It was a little difficult to pick a place to begin with on this site,
so I decided to start at the top of the page and work my way down!
What is Fruit
and Veggie Guru? – While this is the last one across the top
navigation bar, I thought it would be wise to start here. This section
explains what the site is all about.
Recipes –
I’m always hunting for new recipes! Here you’ll find tons
of recipes you can use to prepare your fruits and veggies in tasty
and interesting ways. You’ll find recipes for condiments, beverages,
salads, side dishes, desserts and more!
Produce &
Your Health – Here you will learn all about nutrition, getting
your recommended daily intake, how easy it is to eat produce and how
to prepare fruits and vegetables. I love the part about getting your
daily intake, so make sure you check that one out.
Organic Produce
– Here you can learn all about organic produce, why some people
favor it and just why exactly it tends to cost more.
Produce &
Kids – Are you having trouble getting your kids to eat their
fruits and veggies? Like I said before, I was a very picky eater growing
up and only recently have I become more adventurous, so I understand
where your kids are coming from. For me, a lot of it has to do with
texture, so I’d recommend if you can’t get your kids to
eat something cooked one way, try another. For example, instead of
feeding them cooked carrots, let them try the raw version. I couldn’t
stand cooked carrots growing up, but now I love them. Spinach is another
one. I still don’t enjoy creamed spinach to this day, but I
have found other ways to eat it, such as in my salads or lightly wilted
down with a quick sauté.
Here you’ll
not only learn about nutrition for your kids, but you’ll find
recipes that are kid orientated and learn how to get your kids involved,
as well as, how to get your kids to eat more fruits and vegetables!
Produce in the
News – Here you will find information on Food Safety (produce
recalls), Health and Nutrition, Organics, Meal Preparation, Kids and
Produce, Locally Grown Produce and Other Produce Related Stories.
On the main page,
you’ll also find green and yellow navigation bars that include
Find a Fruit and Find a Veggie. Click on the Go button next to either
of those to start a search through the entire fruit and veggie lists.
I chose fruit and then scrolled down until I found oranges. Then I
scrolled down to where it showed the different varieties of oranges.
I was searching for information on blood oranges, because I’ve
been wanting to try them forever. I wondered what they taste like
and now I know! Blood oranges taste like oranges with a hint of raspberry
or strawberry.
Below the green
and yellow bars, you’ll find the main section. There you can
find a display of fruit, a list of the most recent produce news and
a "Did You Know?" fact.
This Web site
gives you a very cool look into the produce we eat everyday. Check
it out!
