Abandonware, in short, is software that is no longer marketed or distributed by the company that originally created it. It is, however, usually obtainable from another source - legally, even!

Computer games are perfect examples of abandonware, and there are actually sites on the Internet that host hundreds of forgotten games of days past. Do a Google search for “abandonware” sometime and I'm sure you'll dredge up more than your fair share of outlets for old games, operating systems, applications and other memories of times gone by. Just keep in mind that a lot of those games and applications might not work 100% with newer operating systems, so you'll need to employ “Compatibility Mode” for some of them.
