I promised you I would be back, and here I am! Hopefully you’ve been checking on your Facebook account; adding photos, and adding friends. As you confirm more and more friends on Facebook, you will begin to notice your news feed will fill in. You’re news feed lets you see what you’re friends are up to; what they’re saying, if they're posting pictures, etc. Here’s an example of what a news feed might look like:

image

1.I’m sure you’ve checked out a friend's profile. You can see that they all have a basic template. This is the great part about Facebook versus Myspace. Everything is neat and in order, easy to use, but you still have the ability to personalize. In the middle of a Facebook profile is the Wall. A person’s wall is how you communicate with them.

image

As you can see, here you can write something, post a link, photo, web cam video, give a gift, draw a picture or post a song! Once posted, it can be viewed by all who visit your friend’s profile.

image

2.If you want to send something more private, Facebook also contains it's own little email application. You can send a message or a video to one of your friends, a Facebook member who you are not friends with, or even just a regular email.

image

This can come in handy when you meet someone new, as you don’t necessarily have to give them your email address, just your name. They can look you up on Facebook, and you can communicate there. Nifty, huh?

3.The status update box allows you to let your friend’s know what you are up to at the moment. You can enter whatever you like, such as your plans for the day or a inspiring quote.

image

If you click the Status Update tab, you can see all of your friend’s recent Status Updates.

4.When you are surfing through your friends photo’s and would like to write something, just scroll down and it’s as simple as that.

image

5.Finally, the last thing I want to show you today is a feature recently added to Facebook, called Facebook Chat. It’s an instant messaging client right within Facebook. If you click on the Online Friends button, a list of your friends currently signed in appears.

image

Click on of their names and you will initiate an IM window.

image

6.If you press the button on the right, followed by Pop-Out Chat. Then you can have your own separate IM window, with the friend list in a pane.

image

The wonder of Facebook is that this is all accessible from adding a friend with one click. There’s no need to keep separate email address and instant message names. Facebook is all you need! I’ll catch you Thursday for our last installment in the Facebook series!
