As many of our readership have
found, I'm a stickler for organization. I like to have a place for
everything and everything in it's place. Still, the most hectic
thing I have a hard time keeping in line are my
bookmarks.
Earlier this morning I was in just
such a conundrum. While using Firefox 3, I
suddenly realized that I have around 80 or so bookmarks. The
subject matter from site to site is varied, but I found that I
could basically group them (by dragging them up or down) into some
kind of establishment.
That's never enough for me, though,
so next time you're feeling up to some Firefox categorization try
adding separators to further enhance your bookmarks
menu!
Open your bookmarks menu and
right-click on the bookmark or folder that you
want to put a separator above and behold, a new method of
organization presents itself!

When you want to get rid of a
separator, press Ctrl-B. This will open the
Firefox bookmarks management sidebar. From here you can simply
click on an existing separator and hit the Delete
key.

#1 : Bookmarks
- Having way more than 80, I make folders for my bookmarks such as Travel, Food and Recipes, Blogs, etc. I do the same on my desktop making folders for a lot of the icons to go into so that my screen is not littered with icons I don't use very often. Written By: Jo Wake
#2 : Separating Firefox Bookmarks
- For people, like me, who have massive bookmark lists (I have 5792 links in my Favorites!), another way to organize bookmarks is by making folders for each category.
After collecting a number of bookmarks related to one subject, say "Shopping," for example, simply make a folder and label it with a descriptive word. Then, right-click on each bookmark you wish to place in the folder and choose "Cut." Next, navigate to your new folder, right-click on it and choose "Paste." Do this for each bookmark you want to move.
Once you have a folder made, the next time you add a bookmark that pertains to that subject, instead of just adding it to the bottom of your uncategorized links, choose a folder before clicking on "Done."
You can even add subfolders to your main classifications, if you desire. In a folder labeled "Fun Things," you might put subfolders called "Cartoons," "Funny Pictures," "Games," and "Things to Do."
It is a good idea to go through your bookmarks occasionally to see if you need to make a new category or to add uncategorized links to existing folders.
The above tips are actually pertinent, no matter what browser you use. Written By: Diana
