Are you looking
for an affordable, modern way of getting on the Internet and
checking your e-mail? You don't need a gigantic desktop computer or
even an expensive laptop, people! All you need to do is take a
closer look at netbooks.
A netbook is a wireless enabled, mini laptop primarily used for web
browsing and e-mailing. There's a lot of options out there from a
myriad of manufacturers, but the most important features to look
for when buying are the keyboard and display. Most only have a
keyboard that's 80 or 90% the size of a typical laptop, and you can
get screen sizes ranging from 7” all the way up to a more
robust 12”. In other words, those with big fingers or poor
vision might want to consider a larger alternative if they plan on
heavy use.
Yet the price is right. Netbooks run about $250 and up, making this
cost conscious computing in a cash strapped world. I paid under
$300 for mine and it has most, if not all of the features I need to
get what I need to do done. And don't fret about the operating
system, netbooks come standard with Windows XP SP3 or even Linux on
some models! Users who are looking to play some old school computer
games might want to stick with an XP model, though.
Oh, and another thing to keep in
mind. Because netbooks are a much smaller form-factor than regular
laptops, there is no room for a DVD-rom. You can buy external
DVD-roms like
this one, though, and usually for pretty cheap, too! There is
SD storage available on most netbooks to supplant this, although I
think the hard drive (around 160gb) is more than enough space for
anyone in this computing capacity.
There are a ton of options available
to the prospective netbook buyer. Shop around, look for features
that you want and be prepared to enjoy the freedom an itty bitty
computer can offer!
