Do you like
using MS PowerPoint 2007's Quick Styles when using shapes?
I
just love them… they are an easy way to dress my
presentation up. (Not that I don't branch out on my own to do
custom work but let's face it, we don't always have the time or
energy for custom stuff in each and every presentation.)
Now, when I'm working on the slide
content I'm very focused on just that, getting the content
in.
Then I worry about the "pretty
stuff" and as I'm working on shapes, pictures, design theme and
whatever else I decide to format… by this time, beyond
formatting the font, I've all but dismissed those text boxes with
the information.
But wait, maybe I shouldn't dismiss
them during the "pretty" phase.
The thing that I never noticed
before was that because text boxes are in the shape category they
too can have the Quick Styles applied to them. The Drawing Tools
Format tab on the Ribbon is available while the text box is
selected and, in case you never noticed, you can access the
Quick Styles from the Home tab too! (Far right side of the
Home tab in the Drawing section.)
On
how many occasions have I wasted time trying to make a title stand
out from the rest of the background and still work with the theme
colors? What do I think to change? The text color of course…
but the Quick Styles can give the titles much more style than a
simple text color change. (You can do that too but maybe it won't
be needed as often.)
Well, I can tell you that it's been
way too many times to remember; especially considering that I could
have easily chosen a Quick Style and everything would have looked
professional and coordinated.
So… next time you're trying
to make a title or other text box stand out a bit either use a
Quick Style from the Home tab of the Ribbon or go right to the
Drawing Tools Formatting tab.
Either way, why not let PowerPoint
make it "pretty"?
Nope - I can't think of a reason why
not either!
