Do you use a lot
of bulleted lists in MS PowerPoint? I bet if you're a big
PowerPoint user, they are a part of your daily life, right?
I'd even bet that somewhere along the way, you've had a list
where individual items had sub-points below them.
For those sub-points, we need to indent them further than the
main list and usually, the bullet style changes as well. (This is
called a demotion).
Also, I'm sure you've figured out that you use the Increase
Indent button to make the demotion and the Decrease Indent button
to move the item back toward the left (called a
promotion).
But what if you
prefer to use the keyboard?
Is
there an easy way for you to accomplish a promotion or demotion
without all the mouse work?
Of
course! It's all just a matter of the correct keys.
The first step is to move your cursor to the very left of the
first line of the item. (The Home key works for this and maybe an
up arrow, if the item is longer than one line).
To
demote the item (move it right), hit the Tab key.
To promote the
item (move it left), use Shift + Tab.
With either of these movements, you'll find that PowerPoint
automatically changes the bullet associated with the item.
There you have it. List promotions and demotions without a
single mouse click to be heard!

- An alternative to shift+tab is to make sure that you are on the first character of a bullet point, and hit the backspace key. This only works in MS word (not PowerPoint) and you have to have just used tab to demote it, however it can sometimes be faster. Written By: Billy Graydon
