Have you ever wondered what makes you happy? Well, if you have you can join a scientific research project that is using the iPhone to conduct happiness research. They are developing technology for other phones, so check back to see if yours is supported at a later date, but for right now this is best for the iPhone.
To join the study, click the Join link at the top of the page. Then fill out the form with an e-mail address and create a password. Then you’ll read the user agreement which explains what the purpose of the study is, what your role in it will be, and that you are free to stop participating at any time. After you’ve read the agreement click the Proceed button.
Next you’ll need to answer a few questions. To do so, click the blue Ready to Get Started? button, then you will answer a series of questions. For most you will click the appropriate bullet, or select the answer that best represents you from a drop down box.
The next step is to setup your notifications. You need to decide if you want a text or an e-mail, how often you want to receive them, and who your cell phone carrier is. After you’ve filled that out, you’ll start tracking your happiness. I don’t have an iPhone so I couldn’t explore past this test, but as soon as they have this for my smart phone, I’m in!
If you decide that you need to pause your surveys, you can do so. Just go into your settings and uncheck the e-mail and text boxes. This will pause your service. Should you decide that this isn’t for you after you’ve created an account, you can delete your account. To do so, click Account and then select the Delete Your Account Link. And just like that, your account is gone.
I think it will be interesting to see in the long run what kind of information this project generates. Check it out today!
