iPhones and similar smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, and with good reason. Smartphones are incredible tools, great for keeping track of appointments, listening to music, and surfing the internet. Few, however, utilize the iPhone’s incredible versatility, not realizing its value as a travel companion. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of apps that any traveler should keep on their iPhone.
Aroundme (free): Aroundme does exactly what its name might suggest. By taking information on your surroundings, the app presents you with a list of notable landmarks nearby, including restaurants, parks, ATMs, and more. Even if you aren’t traveling, it’s a great app to have on hand.
Maplets (2.99): An incredibly robust map app, Maplets doesn’t stop at just street maps. Should you find yourself lost in a park, or in need of subway information, Maplets has that and more. Keep this app handy if you find yourself driving in an unfamiliar city.
Urbanspoon (free): Urbanspoon is the perfect app for a hungry traveler. By narrowing down criteria like location, price range, and type of cuisine, Urbanspoon provides a list of similar restaurants, as well as their address, and user reviews. You might even find it useful for discovering new local restaurants.
Convertme (.99): An app designed for money conversions, Convertme is a great tool should you find yourself visiting a foreign country. The app also boasts a built-in calculator and unit converter (because who really knows the metric system anyway).
Kayak (free): Kayak is a wonderful app for any overnight or long-distance travels. The app allows you to find flights, car rentals, and hotel openings, but lets you book them directly from the app. If you’re making a last minute travel arrangement, Kayak is a must.
