Update Your Plug-Ins In Firefox

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 by | Filed Under: Using The Internet

We’ve seen a lot of questions lately about plug-ins like Flash and Java not working in Firefox. That means many videos won’t play and some games won’t work. Some browsers, including Firefox, disable plug-ins when there are security concerns. Both Java and Firefox had serious security problems earlier in the year. I went over how to enable Flash in Firefox in this article, but here’s a quick tip on making sure all of your plug-ins are up-to-date with the latest bug fixes and security patches.

Depending on the version of Firefox you are using, you can either go to the drop-down menu in the upper left of the Firefox browser, select Add-ons.

Or you can select Tools at the top of the browser and choose Add-ons from the drop-down screen.

Choose Plugins from the options on the left.

At the top of the list of Plugins, you’ll see the option to check to see if your plugins are up to date. Click on it.

It will take you to a page where you’ll see your plugins listed along with their status and the option to update those in need of attention.

Keeping your plug-ins updated can head off some issues before they cause you problems. Plus, with all the security issues out there, your system will stay safer.

Sounds good on paper but shockwave flash 11.5 is a total resource hog. If you’re playing some of the facebook games version 10.0 uses far less memory and works just as well, once you get around the annoying Firefox pop-ups to update. Prefer Chrome using your suggestion for use with outdated versions.
Would love to know if you can update say, Firefox for news video feeds and keep chrome with version 10 for facebook game performance????
