Updating Windows 8 Apps

As I’ve said before, the Windows 8 operating system is all about the apps. Microsoft has made a point of stressing that it plans to continually update apps to improve performance and fix bugs, instead of fixing issues with large service pack updates. But apps will not auto-update. Microsoft promises to fix that issue with Windows 8.1, but until then, here’s how to make sure your apps are up-to-date.
Look at the Start Screen for Windows 8.
Now, check the tile for the Windows Store. It looks like a little shopping bag. If you see a little number in the lower right of that tile, you’ve got updates.
Click or tap on the icon and you’ll be taken to the Windows Store.
In the upper right-hand corner you’ll see the number of updates available. Click or tap on that number.
You’ll see a list of available updates. Select the updates you wish to install.
Then at the bottom of the page, choose Install.
The Installing apps screen will appear and monitor the progress of the installation.
Then you’ll see a notification that your apps have successfully updated.
Not a difficult process, but it will sure be nice when Windows 8.1 comes along and lets you set this up automatically. If you have questions about Windows 8, you can ask us by clicking here.
