Charles has a questions about USB 3.0. He writes: “I have win7 with 2.0 usb ports, If I buy a 3.0 usb memory stick. Will my data be stored and played back at 2.0 or 3.0?”
Charles, you will be limited to the speed of your the ports on your PC, which is USB 2.0. The USB 3.0 flash drive will work fine with you ports, since they are backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
USB 3.0 ports feature SuperSpeed transfer, increased bandwidth, better power management and support rotating media.
As far as storage, the main difference between a USB 2.0 and 3.0 flash drive for you would be the speed at which they can transfer data. The data itself isn’t affected. So even if you transferred a file to your USB 3.0 drive from a PC with USB 2.0, if you later wanted to transfer the file to a PC with USB 3.0, you would get the USB 3.0 transfer rate.
