In part 1 of this article, we began to process of using task scheduler to automatically set up disk cleanup on your PC. If you haven’t read part 1 yet, click here.

By the end of the tutorial, you can also find the paths and arguments to run CCleaner, shutdown and restart your computer, backup the Documents folder and open a custom session in Chrome or Firefox.

Step one: simply name your task and optionally add a description for it. After you are done, click Next.

Step two: set when the task will run. We have plenty of options here. In this case, I am choosing a weekly defrag after midnight, so I’m sure that it’s completed by the time I wake up.

Step three: now it’s time to set up the action. In Windows 7, apart from starting a program, you can also display a message or send an e-mail. Both of this actions are deactivated in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, so despite appearing as an option to select in the action screen, they are useless.

Okay, now that we’ve decided to start a program, it’s time to get down to business and defrag the disk. We’ll walk you through that step-by-step in part 3 of this series.
