Vista: No More Sleeping Passwords

Do you have a Windows Vista computer you usually put into sleep mode when you’re not using it? If so, you might be a little irritated by the fact that you have to enter in your password every time you wake it up. In most cases, you could just remove or not use a password at all, but if you’re using the file sharing feature, a password is required. So, is there anything you can do to get around the issue? Well, of course there is!

In fact, it’s very easy to do! Go to Start, Control Panel and select Power Options.

On the left hand side, you’ll see a link that says “Require a password on wakeup.”

If you still have UAC enabled, you’ll see another link that says “Change settings that are currently unavailable.” That will unlock the options below.

Now, you can click on the “Don’t require a password” button and then hit the Save Changes button.

That’s it. By changing this quick setting, you’ll save yourself from a lot of irritation and you can actually enjoy working with Vista once again!
