Welcome to We Choose the Moon, a web site devoted to the launch of Apollo 11. The site was created to honor the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, and is cleverly divided into 11 stages with sound, photos, and videos making it a truly multimedia experience. I loved the actual launch recordings that they included on the site. They recommend that you turn your sound up and set the site to full screen for the best experience when you visit, and I agree whole heartedly.
When the site loads, you’ll have the option of listening to the prelaunch audio, and clicking the launch button. Or you can use the stage menu at the bottom of the page. Click the circles on the menu (three are around the image of the earth, others are along the line, and then around the moon).
It was a lot of fun to watch the launch in stage one, there wasn’t much to do but just watch and listen. Then I got to stage two – and there were things to interact with. There are two spots on the spacecraft, and then you can use the Stage 3 button to navigate forward, or the Stage 1 button to travel backwards.
This site is truly awesome, and is something you have to experience for yourself. Go check it out today! I don’t think you’ll regret it!
