What Version of Windows 7 Are You Running?

Monday, July 4th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Computer Terms, I've Always Wanted To Know...

When reading tech articles, software reviews and whatnot, you’ll notice one detail specified all the time. This question is: What version of Windows 7 you are running? This is asked a lot, especially for the free upgrade to Windows 10. This common question can be hard to answer since all versions look extremely alike.

To add to the confusion, you could have a different version of Windows 7 to what you started out because of the free upgrades Microsoft offered in the past. Fear not as we have a simple solution down below to help you out.

There are in fact six versions of Windows 7. Each has different features for different needs. For example, the Professional version of Windows 7 has many advantages from a business or enterprise point of view. In most cases you are most likely using Home Premium as that is the version on the vast majority of prebuilt desktops and laptops.

If you want to find out what version of Windows 7 you have, simply follow the easy steps below and we’ll show you how to check what version you have.

1. The first step is to click on the Start button. In the Start menu, click the Control Panel button.

2. The Control Panel will open up and here you click System and Security.

3. Now click on the System button.

4. You will see your version under the Windows Edition heading.

This information is very helpful when upgrading to Windows 10. If you have Home Premium you are entitled to the Home version of Windows 10 or if you have Professional you are entitled to the Professional version of Windows 10.
