What Will Happen To Game Sites?

George read our article about the security and stability issues for Flash Player, and asked:   If Flash is being done away with, what is being(or will be) done on games sites such as Pogo?

Back in 2010, Pogo  released an HTML 5 version of Poppit for the Chrome Web store that was included as part of Chrome. But since then, the company has, in its own words, “dabbled from time to time on some HTML5 code.”

Despite the security flaws in Flash Player, Pogo seems to count on Flash being around for awhile longer. They’re faced with the choice of spending a substantial amount of money to rebuild existing games in a new platform or to just let the PC games die if Flash support is discontinued and concentrate their efforts on mobile gaming apps.  That’s really the choice face by any site that depends on the Flash platform, unless Adobe can find a way to make it secure.

Actually, Pogo has posted on its website several notices that it is gradually converting its games to a different platform. I don’t remember at the moment what that platform was But I DO remember that it has posted several times that it IS transitioning its games.

What I read is “working on…could get support but still up in the air…i.e. nothing concrete about Flash Player/Adobe and eventually any games I will not be able to play” and no, I do not have a tablet or the latest and greatest new computer. Will there be an alternative to Flash? End result is a lot of people will not be able to play the games due to Chrome/Adobe not update or rather Chrome not going with Flash Player. Swell!!

  3. Toxic Cheats says:

It is not really flash players that are a problem the real problem now is actually java applets. These are being cut down every day as they are serious risk that according to some experts can’t be patched. Flash is here to stay and will be around for a lot longer than people think.

It’s a shame as being a java developer you can earn a ton of money!
