I really like your daily news letter and find many useful tips. I may have missed an article on this but I would like to know what is the best gadget to turn your TV into a smart TV. I heard apple made one that was really good but you need an I tunes account.

In previous articles, we have covered how to turn your TV into a Smart TV – you can check them out here [1] and here. [2]

But what’s the best way to turn your TV into a Smart TV? That depends on your needs, what types of streaming and music services you might already be using and what type of equipment you already have on hand in your house.

If you have an Xbox, Play Station or certain Blu-ray players with built-in capabilities, you already have the capability to use streaming services. And while the quantity and quality of content may vary according to device, an option where you don’t need to purchase an additional device is always a great option.

AppleTV is another option, but it is part of a closed iTunes system. Now if you already have  a Mac or an iPad or iPod and have purchased content in the iTunes store, this may be the best choice for you to easily access you content. Now if you have an Amazon Prime membership, you’ll want to make sure to choose a device that offers access to that content. I frequently watch Amazon content on my Xbox 360.

There are a variety of set-top boxes like Roku or D-Link that will get your TV connected. It’s a good idea to read reviews on devices and to talk to your friends and family members who have one to see what they like and don’t like.

Even something as small as a Google Chromecast stick could do the trick. As long as you have tablet, smartphone or computer that’s capable of controlling your TV.

You have lots of choices, but there’s no one right choice. Fortunately, most of them will work just fine. What you’ll need to think about is content and your price range. I’m sure your fellow readers probably have a lot of good advice on the subject. So feel free to weigh in in the comments section about what works for you.
