WhatsApp: Use It On The Desktop

Friday, April 28th, 2017 by | Filed Under: Android, Using The Internet

Over a billion people use WhatsApp on their smartphones to send and receive messages. It’s far and away the most popular messaging app out there.

But sometimes, you may need to send or receive a message while using your computer.

Although there is no “WhatsApp” program that you can simply download and install on your computer, there is a web application called “WhatsApp Web” that can let you view, send and receive messages from your internet browser. You will need to already have the WhatsApp app installed on your smartphone.

In this example, we’ll show you how to install WhatsApp in Google Chrome. Open Google Chrome and type into the address bar. Then press Enter.

You will see a QR code on the screen, which you will have to scan with your smartphone. You can see at the bottom of the screen the instructions to set it up depending on your operating system. Here we will follow the instructions for Android devices.

Open WhatsApp on your smartphone. Tap the menu icon in the upper right of the screen.

Choose WhatsApp Web

Aim the camera at the QR code on the computer screen.

The screen on the browser will change, and you will now be able to see all of your WhatsApp conversations. Press on any of them to view the messages.

You can send a message to someone by clicking the “New chat” icon at the top left of the screen, to the right of your profile picture.

A list of your WhatsApp contacts will be displayed. Click on the contact whom you wish to send a message to.

In the message box, type in your desired message. Then press “Enter” on your keyboard or click on the arrow to the right of the message box.

Record voice messages by pressing the microphone icon to the right of the message box. You can only do this if you have a microphone connected to your computer.

When you’re finished, click the 3-dot menu button again and choose Log out.

Your phone has to remain connected to the Internet at all times. If it is disconnected, you will not be able to send or receive messages on WhatsApp Web until you reconnect your smartphone to the internet.
