Where Can I Find A Tablet With USB?

Joanne from Center Point, Texas writes:

I have been searching for a WiFi tablet that supports Skype video calling and has a USB. Please help.

Nearly any tablet with a front-facing camera will work with Skype video calling whether it be Android, iPad or a Windows tablet. But if you want a USB port, your choices will be limited to a Windows tablet.  These are the only tablets that support USB ports. (Most Android tablets use micro-USB).

You’ll have the choice between the full Windows 8.1 operating system and Windows RT when you purchase a Windows tablet. I suggest going with the full Windows operating system, often times noted by being called “Pro.”

Yes but, an OTG (one the go) connector with a male micro USB one end and a female USB socket the other end will help. The cable is not long, about four inches.

Opps, OTG should be ‘On the go’, not ‘One the go’

the android tablet may use a micro usb port but it will still connect to other usb ports on the computer with its micro usb cord.

If you go for the Win Surface, I agree the Pro is probably “better”. The big issue with the Surface RT is that it CANNOT run “normal” Windows programs like the Office applications (Word, Excel). RT requires special versions of programs that are created to specifically work on it. There is a “RT” version of Office that comes “free” with the Surface tablet, BUT it is NOT “fully functional”. For example, it does not support macros.

Right now you can only buy and install RT apps (craplets) from the MS Windows Store online…
