Where Can I Get Audiobooks For My Android Tablet?

Danny from Hobbs, New Mexico writes: Where can I get books that are read to you for my Android Tablet? I like stories but I don’t like to read.

Danny, you have several options for enjoying audio books on your Android tablet.

If you’re interest in free audio books, you might want to check out LibriVox in the Google Play Store [1].  It provides access to over 6,000 audiobooks that you can either stream or download free of charge. The works are mostly classics, put together by dedicated volunteers who record, edit and distribute the books.

As you can tell from its user ratings in the Google Play Store, this app has a lot of fans.

It’s a free app with free content, so just head to the Google Play Store and click Install. You can also check out other free audio book apps like Audiobooks Traveling Classics.

If you’d like to borrow Audio books from the library, check out the Hoopla [2] and Overdrive [3] Apps.  Both will allow you to borrow from participating libraries. My local library uses Overdrive and there’s a good selection of audiobooks available. You can learn more about Overdrive by clicking here [4].

If you’re looking to buy newer books, there’s Audible. Audible is a division of Amazon and offers 100,00 plus titles for sale. They also have some free books available for download.

The books are not cheap, best sellers often run around the $30 mark if they are unabridged. But audible does offer monthly and annual plans that allow you to save some money.

Fortunately Danny, you have a lot of options.  Check them out to see what works best for your needs and your budget.
