Which Windows Tablet Should I Buy?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 by | Filed Under: Uncategorized

Fadekemi from Nigeria writes:

Please help me pick the best 8′ windows 8.1 tablet. My requirements include
– high camera quality is not necessary
– the longest battery time
– high screen quality and graphics
– high processor quality
The options are:
– Acer Iconia W4
– Dell Venue 8 Pro
– Lenovo Miix2 8′
– Toshiba Encore WT8

I’m  not going to tell you which Windows tablet to buy, because that could depend entirely on your needs and preferences.  But let’s look at how these devices compare.

Let’s start with battery life since you say the camera is not of great importance to you.  Checking out the specs for the tablets provided by their manufacturers (I just checked the manufacturer website) and from tests users performed, I found these battery life listings:

Acer W4- 8 hours

Dell Venue Pro 7 hours

Leveno Miix 2 8.5 hours

Toshiba WT8 8 hours

Battery Life Winner: Leveno Miix

Screen Quality

Acer W4- 1280 x 800 188 ppi (pixels per inch)

Dell Venue Pro: 1280 x 800 188 ppi

Leveno Miix 2 1280 x 800 188 ppi

Toshiba WT8 1280 x 800 188 ppi

Winner: 4 way tie.

Acer W4- Intel Atom Quad-Core Z3740 1.33 GHz Processor

Dell Venue Pro: Intel Atom Z3740D Processor (2MB Cache, up to 1.8GHz Quad-Core)

Leveno Miix 2 1.3 GHz Intel Atom Z3740 Quad-Core Processor

Toshiba WT8 Intel Atom Z3740 Quad-Core 1.86 GHz Processor

Winner: 4 way tie

As you can see, the specs are fairly equal. Checking user reviews on various sites, all four of these tablets seemed to rate at 4 out of 5 stars or 3 out of four stars. The consensus among users was that all were good, but not perfect. It’s likely you would be satisfied with any of these models. If possible, try to get a hands-on try with these models. How each feels in your hands is an important factor with a tablet. With similar specs, you may now want to consider weight, price and the availability of accessories (like keyboards) along with warranties (if available) before you make your decision.

Fortunately, this information is readily available on either the manufacturers’ websites or usually in the product information at sites where these items are for sale.
