Question: Why is Facebook trying to charge me a dollar to send a message?
Answer: If you’ve tried to message someone who isn’t your Facebook friend, you may have seen the window below pop up. For one $1, you can be sure your message won’t go into the recipient’s “other” folder.
The “other” folder is where Facebook filters out messages it believes might be spam or unimportant to the user.
You don’t have to pay the money to send the message. You can go ahead and send the message, taking the chance that it might go unnoticed in the “other” folder or you can send a friend request to the person you wish to contact. This charge does not apply to messages directed at people who are your Facebook Friends.
