Electronics manufacturer Philips says it has seen the future of home cooking, and that future includes a WiFi enabled slow cooker. The company has unveiled HomeCooker neXt – a prototype design it says will bring out deep, delicious flavors and have the ability to roast, steam and saute.
The device is an upgraded version of the Jamie Oliver HomeCooker, designed in conjunction with the celebrity chef. This next- gen cooker is controlled by an app on your smartphone or tablet and comes with built in WiFi capabilities.
The app will also offer recipe suggestions and step-by-step cooking instructions.
“Many consumers are already using their smart devices to find new recipes online, so we’re exploring ways to create a smart digital kitchen appliance,” says Katrin Hansson, Consumer Marketing Director Philips Kitchen Appliances.
The cooker stirs itself and the app automatically calculates and controls the cooking time and temperature settings. The app will beep and give an on-screen notification when attention to the dish is required.
It will also automatically turn off the heat when cooking is finished and keep the app warm.
Chef Jamie Oliver said, “We all know it can be a struggle to get fresh, homemade food on the table every day, especially for busy parents who have to juggle so much. It’s often a real tradeoff between spending time with the family and preparing fresh food.”
Philips seems to believe a gadget like this will save a while lot of time in the kitchen and free your family up for other activities.
I can’t help but picture the amount of time I would spend trying to figure out what’s wrong with the crock pot’s WiFi signal.
No word on when this next generation appliance will be available for purchase but the company says to expect more digitally-driven, connected appliances in product categories like male grooming, appliances, coffee makers and air purification.
