Windows 10: How Do I Run A CD?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Quick Tips, Uncategorized, Windows 10

Wayne asks: “How can I make my computer run a new CD’? I put disk in and see nothing on my screen. The Windows 8 computer was sent into Windows 10, and I have had many problems, this one I never figured out how to fix.”

If your CD’s aren’t opening automatically, type This PC in your search box and click on the result. You should see the CD drive displayed along with your other drives. You can right-click on the DVD or CD and choose Open Auto Play.

To make sure you automatically have the autoplay option, type “autoplay settings” into your search box and click on the results. Make sure autoplay is on.  You can also click the drop-down arrow next to removable drives to set your defaults as to how Windows 10 treats removable drives such as CDs.

I’m assuming you’re talking about program and file CDs here and not music CDs. If you do mean music CDs, let me know.

I am having the very same Problem with anything I stick in D:Drive.
It will just spin & spin & Spin till Doomsday & it just doesn’t show up at all anywhere on My Laptop.

This is a very common problem with Windows 10 upgrade and has been around as long as the upgrade making the answer given here a very poor one!
There are various workarounds but in some cases unless fixed by the latest updates it can only be fixed by changing out the player or getting an external DVD/CD drive.
There are many comments about this on the MS Windows 10 site and this can be a good place to start to find a fix!
    Good luck!

Your CD drive may not be reading the DVD or CD. Try putting another CD or DVD in and see if it recognizes it. If it doesn’t, there may be an issue. You might need to update the drivers.
