Microsoft has bestowed upon us the system requirements for Windows 7! Here they for both 32 and 64 bit flavors:
– 1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
– 1 GB of RAM (32-bit)/2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
– 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit)/20 GB (64-bit)
– DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver,”
This is the bare-minimum it will take to run the new operating system, but Bill and his crew also noted that all of these requirements pertain to all versions of Windows 7, be they the high end version or the low end.
I, for one, am excited. The response from the beta has been generally positive and the performance records indicate that Windows 7 outperforms Vista in just about every way! We have a lot of jaded Vista users out there, but will this be enough to keep them in Microsoft territory when the urge/need to upgrade strikes? Only time will tell!
