I got an interesting e-mail from Dave. He writes: “This has my computer-savvy friend stumped. I’m using 8.1. When I start the computer, I go to log in and hit the first letter and it acts as if I have a stuck key. This won’t stop until I hit the back arrow. I then delete all the entries and log in a second time and it works. I have tried changing the password but it still does it. Any ideas?”
Actually Dave, I have a similar issue with my Surface Pro running 8.1. When I start it up and type in the password, it always says the password is wrong, until I delete and retype and then I’m in with no problem.
I found a few other mentions of this issue with suggestions as to what may be causing it, but no concrete answers. I’ve found that if I wait a minute or two after waking up or starting the computer to attempt my log-in, I don’t see this issue. So it’s possible my Surface just wasn’t fully awake yet.
I’d suggest you pause for the amount of time you’d spend typing and retyping and try it. The good news is that I don’t see this issue in the Windows 10 preview.
