Lisa from Ohio says,
I just got a Windows 8.1 laptop. When it installed updates the last time, it gave me a screen that says “We couldn’t complete the updates, undoing changes. Please do not turn off the computer.” It stays on that screen and every time I try to turn on the computer it comes up.
It appears this message is not entirely uncommon. However, there is a fairly easy fix.
While it may seem the computer is stuck on the screen, the key is to be patient. A friend had this exact issue, and before Windows would load up, she had to wait around 30 minutes for it to finally load. Once it does load, you can go to the Update Trouble Shooter. This website does have links to the Windows 7, Vista, and XP versions as well. If you cannot connect to the Internet, Windows 8 has a built in troubleshooter, although not as in-depth as the download version.
Download and install the small file, then let it run. Again, this can take a few minutes to finish. Once it is done, it will hopefully fix the errors. Then reboot the computer to be certain the fixes worked. That’s it.
