Bob, the price you cited concerns me. The Windows 8 Pro Pack (which upgrades Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro) retails for $99.99. I checked the pricing in both the U.S. and Australia. If you were able to purchase it for $49 in either U.S. or Australian dollars, you may have your hands on a counterfeit copy and that would explain why it won’t activate.
There are also a couple of other things, I’d like to confirm.
I will assume you already have Windows 8 installed on your computer. The Windows Pro Pack is an upgrade for systems already running Windows 8. It won’t upgrade another operating system to 8.
I know this sounds silly, but it does happen, make sure your computer didn’t already come with Windows 8 Pro installed. To upgrade Windows 8 Pro you’ll need to install the Windows 8 or 8.1 Media Center pack.
There’s always the options of contacting Microsoft Support, though I know you say you’ve tried all avenues.
