Word 2013 – Resume Templates To Get The Job Done

Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 by | Filed Under: MS Office Help, MS Word

One  of the nice features of Word 2013 that you might not be familiar with is the large number of templates available to make your documents look just a bit more professional.

One set of templates job hunters will appreciate is the variety of resumes. To find resume templates, open Word 2013, select New and then click or tap Resume right under search box.

You’ll see choices for dozens of resume templates.

You can scroll through the templates or look over at the right of the page under Category, where the resumes are broken down by things like industry and resume style.

You can find resumes for computer programmers, recent college graduates, sales manager positons and teachers among others.

The templates range from plain and functional to fancier designs like Black Tie.

To get started just select a resume and click Create

The Median design features color and place for a photograph.

Customizing it is simple. Just click where the text is and start typing your information.  In this case a little box pop up to guide you.  For this resume, you can choose the resume with or without a photo.

Click on the photo for options to change it or to add text.

Then you’ll have this resume, but with your information.

You can use the headings as a guide to go through and enter your information.

Any of these resumes can be customized to change the graphics and type style, color and size. It’s a good starting point when you’re not quite sure where to start.

I must confess that I have not looked at the latest Word templates, because I quit looking at them years ago. However, I started out, umpteen years ago, optimistically. Didn’t last long. Every template I have looked at so far leads to an aesthetically offensive result. It takes so long to customize one into what’s wanted that it’s faster to start from scratch. Last I saw, Word cannot manage even to address an envelope properly. (The correct placement of the address, space permitting, is 1/2″ below horizontal center and 1/2″ to the left of vertical center.)

Back in the day when a secretary was issued to every executive, mine was forced to learn to change program defaults. Her lament, “But that’s what the program does!” created documents that were such an embarrassment that I refused to sign them.

    Happy writing!
