Q:
Whenever I start my computer, this little gray box that has some photos in it appears on the top of my desktop. Can you tell me what it is and how I can get rid of it? It layers itself on top of every program I open and is annoying!
A:
Oh, boy… the dreaded Works Portfolio. It’s great if you’re inserting images all the time, but it can be an eye sore if you don’t use it at all. Fortunately, there is a way to keep it from lurking around your desktop.
First, click somewhere on the gray box to fully open the Portfolio.

Then click on the Tasks menu and select Options . In the Options window, uncheck the “Start the Works Portfolio every time I start Windows” box. Then click OK .

Now, back at the Portfolio, select Close under the Tasks menu or hit Alt+F4 . The popular “Are you sure?” window will appear. Just check the “don’t show this again” box, click NO! , and all your troubles should be solved… Well, at least that problem anyway.
