Why is it that sometimes you need to use www when going to a web site and on others you have to leave off the www?
Hi, Charles – thanks for the question!
In short, a website name is converted using a DNS (Domain Name System) server which translates www.worldstart.com into a series of numbers called an IP address. This address tells your Internet connection where on the Internet the website can be found.
However, some website DNS records are configured to allow you to type either www.website.com or just website.com, while others are configured that only www.website.com will go to the website.
Hope this helps!
