Have you ever completed a search on Google (or whichever search engine you like to use), only to find that the search results have nothing to do with what you’re looking for? I think that’s probably happened to all of us at one time or another, but luckily, I have found a solution that will change that forever. It’s called Xippee (pronounced zippy!) and it’s truly amazing. Let’s check it out!
I had never heard of Xippee until I happened to stumble across some good reviews for it on CNET’s Web site. I then went to http://www.xippee.com and watched a demo video about it. Immediately after, I downloaded it and I haven’t stopped using it since. It gives you so much more power while you’re searching and you don’t even have to know any special search functions!
Here’s how you can install it and start using it today:
1.) First off, go to http://www.xippee.com and take a look around. On the right side of the page, there’s a menu bar with all of the different types of downloads for each Web browser. If you only use one browser, go ahead and select it from the list. If you use more than one, I’d suggest choosing the Windows All-in-One package, as it installs Xippee for all of the browsers you have on your computer. Today, I will demonstrate for Internet Explorer.
2.) Next, simply follow the installation prompts. When Xippee is installed, you may have to restart your computer or you might just need to open a new browser window.
3.) Now, go to http://www.google.com and start a search. Let’s say you want to do a search for Paris Hilton. If you type the word “Paris” into the search box, you’ll notice that you get something completely different.
4.) That’s when Xippee really comes in handy! You’re searching for Paris Hilton, but you get results for Paris, France. The keyword here is France, so go ahead and double click on that word in one of the search result listings. The Xippee interface will then pop up!
5.) If you don’t want Paris, France to show up in your search results, just click on the minus ( – ) button and all of the listings related to Paris, France will be removed from the page. After you do that, you’ll see that the first option is still not for Paris Hilton, but it’s for Paris, Las Vegas. Along with removing search results, Xippee can also break down your results so that they relate only to a word you double click. So, simply find the word “Hilton” in the search results and double click it.
6.) This time, click on the plus ( + ) button so that you’ll only get results for the word Hilton.
7.) Once you do that, you’ll see pages and pages of results for Paris Hilton.
And that’s just one example of what Xippee can do for you. To experiment with Xippee a little more, try searching for terms that have various meanings, such as “star.” You can then work to limit your search results to reflect exactly what you’re looking for. Have fun!
