Although it may still be in beta, Yahoo has implemented a feature that tells you when a website is potentially harmful. It’s called SearchScan, and here’s how you can try it out for yourself!
First, log in to your Yahoo account (you can still enable SearchScan without logging in, but being logged in ensures that this feature stays enabled.)
Now, on the Yahoo Homepage click on More, which is located above the Search box and choose Preferences (at the bottom).
On page that opens find the SearchScan section and click Edit.
Next, put a dot in the “Alert me to websites indicated as potentially harmful” selection and hit Save. Voila! SearchScan is enabled, and will alert you when a site in your search results contains potentially harmful stuff!
Neat!

Great tip. Now, can you do the same thing on Google searches? I mis-typed a web-site address last week and ended up at a not nice site. Spent 30 minutes making sure I had deleted cookies, etc. from my computer that might have been left.
